Regarding Proof

tracy — Wed, 08/30/2006 - 12:24

In our previous two articles, The Children of Jonathan and Elizabeth (Tuttle) Belcher and The Children of Jonathan Belcher Continued, we searched the New England Historic Genealogical Society's online database, Massachusetts Vital Records to 1850, for information on Jonathan and Elizabeth (Tuttle) Belcher and their children. We did find a fair bit of information there which seems to confirm the information we found in the book, however, it is important to note that we have yet to prove the information to be true. For instance, it's is possible that there is an entirely different Jonathan Belcher in Chelsea during that time period and that the one who married Elizabeth Belcher is not the son of Joseph Belcher. Likewise, there could be one or more Jonathan Belchers who are married to Elizabeths and who had children during the same time period. Additionally, even if there is just one Jonathan Belcher present during that time period and he is the son of Joseph, there could have been two Elizabeths.

The Children of Jonathan Belcher Continued

tracy — Tue, 08/29/2006 - 19:19

In our first article, The Children of Jonathan and Elizabeth (Tuttle) Belcher, we looked at the information listed in the book he Belcher family in England and America, comprehending a period of seven hundred and sixty-five years, with particular reference to the descendants of Adam Belcher of Southfields, Orange County, New York. The research we did in that article seems to verify many of the statements given in the book. We now have evidence supporting most of the children's births, Jonathan's birth and death information, the death date of Mary Belcher, and the marriage of Joseph Belcher to Rachel Shute. In this installment, we will try to find information for marriages and death dates for the other Belcher children.

tracy — Mon, 08/28/2006 - 19:41

According to the book The Belcher family in England and America, comprehending a period of seven hundred and sixty-five years, with particular reference to the descendants of Adam Belcher of Southfields, Orange County, New York, Jonathan and Elizabeth (Tuttle) Belcher had seven children. In this post, we will seek to verify as much of the information provided about the family using the New England Historic Genealogical Society's online database, Massachusetts Vital Records to 1850.

First, we do a search on Jonathan Belcher from 1717 to 1785 in Chelsea.

Descendents of Jonathan Belcher of Winthrop, MA (1717/8-1785)

tracy — Mon, 08/28/2006 - 18:46

I have decided on a new project. In the book The Belcher family in England and America, comprehending a period of seven hundred and sixty-five years, with particular reference to the descendants of Adam Belcher of Southfields, Orange County, New York, by William H and Joseph Warren Belcher, one of the lines my husband is descended from ends with Jonathan Belcher (1717/8 - 1785). The following is the entry listed on page 378.

From the article:

New York's Ellis Island, the door to America for millions of immigrants last century, has inspired a major Italian film competing at this year's Venice Film Festival.

Nuovomondo (The Golden Door), written and directed by acclaimed filmmaker Emanuele Crialese, tells the tale of a Sicilian family who made the epic journey from their homeland to America in search of a better life.

Apple to recall 1.8 million notebook batteries

tracy — Thu, 08/24/2006 - 13:57

If you haven't already heard, Sony is having lots of issues with their lithium-ion batteries. First Dell, and now Apple have issued recalls on these batteries. Apple's site seems to be experiencing some technical difficulties, but it appears that you can also find the information here:
