Borden family connections

For those who don't know or haven't guessed yet, I'm pretty into genealogy research and I have been researching both my husband's and my own family for a few years now. When I first started doing the research, I asked him and members of his family what they knew. One of the more interesting ones members was a woman by the name of Catherine Borden who married Charles Davis Belcher and is my husband's great-great-grandmother. Family history had it that she was related to the infamous Lizzie Borden. Of course, my first reaction upon hearing that was to ask if there was any proof and there wasn't. So I figured that while I would remember that tantilizing tidbit, I was a long way from proving or disproving it.

Well since those humble beginnings, I found that Catherine's father was a man by the name of Charles Alexander Borden and that his parents were William and Rebecca Borden and that he was born in Cornwallis, Nova Scotia. Further research seems to show that William's ancestors had come from Fall River, MA and Catherine was, in fact, related to Lizzie Borden.

While interesting, it's not this relation to Miss Borden that has me excited but rather the fact that I have found possibly even more ancestors going back to the late 1700s and early 1800s at the latest. So while I have a lot of fact checking to do, it looks like it was a good week for my research. That and I am going to a lecture tomorrow morning at the New England Historical and Genealogical Society on Newfoundland research, another place in Canada where Fred's family is from.
