Internet Apocalypse Now

The sites/tracy.hurleyit.com/files/img_thumbnails is not writeable

What the hell is going on? Facebook is holding out for $2 Billion (yah, that’s BILLION, with a “B”), Gratis Internet made what seems to be a 2nd grade mistake on their privacy policy (either that or they are just completely retarded) that has been labeled as “the largest deliberate breach of privacy in Internet history“, and then today I come across this gem on Tech Crunch. Well, just as soon as one company stopped being evil, another one has stepped in to take its place. Jigsaw is a marketplace for contact information, and it is very efficient. If boasts detailed personal contact information for 2.5 million people, and 7,000 new people are added every day…Unlike competitors like Hoovers and InfoUSA, which gather company information by semi-legitimate means such as scouring SEC filings, cold calling companies and asking for information, and reviewing other public documents, Jigsaw simply pays people to upload other people’s contact information. Users are paid $1 for every contact they upload, and some users have uploaded information on tens of thousands of people. In the words of Krazee-Eyez Killa, “MUTHAFUCKA, WHAT THE FUCK?”. What the Christ is happening to the Internet? Cash is falling from the sky, people are freaking out, OUR PET’S HEADS ARE FALLING OFF! Somebody stop the madness. Somebody stop the Internet, I want to get off.

  • I love how Amazon RDS wants you to use "select ... into outfile" to prep incoming, but you can't do the same thing to get it back out. — 15 years 17 weeks ago

  • @deadprogrammer I've noticed that lately as well. I find it funny that most of the copy is absolutely dreadful. :-) — 15 years 20 weeks ago
  • @andrewteman We had a Zayre in NY. That was my mom's favorite store. She hated when it changed to an Ames. — 15 years 24 weeks ago
