Genea-Musings:- I've been remiss in not mentioning that I have received the Proximidade Award from several genea-bloggers.

Genea-Musings:- I'm posting old family photographs from my collection on Wednesdays, but they won't be wordless posts like others do - I simply am incapable of having a wordless post.

Genea-Musings:- I signed up for Twitter the other day, but it's lonesome talking to myself. I need others to play with - who else is following and tweeting?

Genea-Musings:- Ancestry.com has a page titled Look at all the history ahead with summaries of the databases that are in the image and index pipeline.

Genea-Musings:- It's time to think about my goals and objectives for genealogy research, education, society, and writing for 2009. I didn't do very well in meeting my 2008 goals, but this is an opportunity to start anew - with hope and energy.

Genea-Musings:- I have nominated the following posts as my "Best of Genea-Musings for 2008" based on my own subjective criteria. I tried to pick only two or at most four posts from each month so that it is a manageable list.

Genea-Musings:- I received my issue of UpFront, the NGS monthly email newsletter, today, and noted the mention of two new Searching at Ancestry.com tutorials by Barbara Renick, a noted Southern California genealogist and conference/seminar lecturer.

Genea-Musings:- I've been reporting on Genea-Musings traffic each quarter, more for my own edification, but if this interests you, please read on! My last report was for January through September, 2008.

Genea-Musings:- John Newmark on the Transylvanian Dutch blog found this meme about creating a brief summary of your blog in 2008 - take the first sentence from the first post of each month. You will end up with only twelve sentences. Post those twelve sentences.

Genea-Musings:- It was probably only a matter of time before web sites that offered a free family tree and/or a social network went commercial - charged for their services.

Gena's Genealogy:- One of the perks of belonging to and attending a genealogy society is the education you receive through the monthly programs. Many times this may mean bringing in an outside speaker. That speaker can benefit you in many ways, besides that 1 hour talk. Here are some of my thoughts.

Gena's Genealogy:- Many bloggers have the comment field turned on their blog so that others can comment on their postings. This is great for learning more on a topic and getting other's insights. As you may have noticed, I don't have that field turned on. It isn't because I don't want to hear other's comments, it's because there are times unfortunately when non-genealogists post risque comments or advertisements on blogs.

Gena's Genealogy:- I was recently invited to join the Genea-Bloggers group at Facebook. I appreciate the invite from fellow blogger Miriam Midkiff.

Gena's Genealogy:- When I think of my grandmother and the methods she had available to her for doing genealogy, namely writing lots of letters, I feel very blessed to live in the age of the computer and the Internet. Increasingly, we are able to look at more and more records with just the click of a mouse. It seems that most recently, more vital records are becoming available to us both in digitized form and transcriptions. Some of these projects are collaborations between genealogy/historical societies and the Family History Library. As the Family History Library continues its indexing/digitizing project, even more records will become available to us.
